Lulz.

No. Just, no.

If this site is turning into Facebook/Twitter The Second, I'm out of here. Probably will clean out this account, since I'm still in communities, but I wouldn't be doing anything else.

I don't quite care if LJ will claim their privacy is good, or that they won't connect you without permission, or how they will allow us to enable/disable this feature - because, for god's sake, this is facebook. And we all know how facebook sucks at it, especially with all the scandal about how they don't let you delete account, keeps your information, and everything.

tl;dr: this feature, recycle bin, empty bin. Now. In the meanwhile, I'm creating a new dreamwidth account. As in now.

Just...no. I can give FFnet plenty of chances, because the problems are vastly different, but this...no. LJ, RL; separate. The lot of you in my friends list better not have connected your facebook accounts to your LJ. BECAUSE ONCE YOU HAVE, FACEBOOK WON'T DELETE IT. (Probably? More like VERY LIKELY.) I know some of you to be really private people, so I know you share my concerns. Do not crosspost anything to fb/twit. You'd be annoyed if I do that, and it's vice versa.

Yikes!

I think that I'm pretty safe. All of my entries are Friends Only and while I finally have a Facebook account (that I haven't posted in), it's with a different name and uses a different e-mail address than LJ.

Well...I'm not. I have open entries, and I'll facepalm if somehow or someway it gets linked to facebook. Even if the percentage is really low. But, seriously. This is fail, man. And fail logic.

BECAUSE ONCE YOU HAVE, FACEBOOK WON'T DELETE IT.

Is this true? If so please tell me ASAP and what's your basis on this. I might include this in the post if it is confirmed. thank you so much. :)

Lol. This is a surprise.

But sorry, no...what I'm saying isn't quite a basis, but more of a belief. At this point, it may still be too early to tell if facebook will forever save the data and pretend to give you the option to delete, but, well. Facebook already has a notorious reputation for keeping data when a user clearly tried to delete. I know a couple of my friends had some personal data, or some applications, removed in the past only to have it pop back up suddenly.

So, really...? Facebook has been thoroughly ambiguous in regards to how they treat personal data. Still is. They still seem to be leaning towards the idea of "hiding" data via "disabling", rather than deleting data immediately.

tl;dr: Facebook said nothing, nor did it reassure, users that they will delete LJ data on request. If you can find some statement akin to that by LJ/facebook, I'll retract what I said. In that same regard, the users have all the reasons to believe that facebook will instead choose to store and hide the data until a user chose to enable it again. There's no proof of this, but previously similar incidents says a lot.

Keyword being: Notorious reputation.

Also, this little pic (http://i53.tinypic.com/dx0oz5.png) here that's found in the second link of this post?

That sounds like Big Brother on the net, and a threat. D8

I saw it when I was posting too, then it disappeared after a second.

It may be implying that it can find you, with/without your permission. Who knows? But whatever it is, users aren't going to like seeing it.

I was wondering about that.

Like you said, it almost sounds like a threat so I thought maybe it was added in or something since I haven't seen it (maybe because of NoScript?).

I wasn't trying to minimize the issue. I was just saying that I think I'm pretty safe (unless they start matching with IP addresses).

I don't think they would go as far as matching IPs...too many variables to consider, and too many IPs around.

..But, who knows?

Will this (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/85105) help?

Seriously, though, all of LJ's "improvements" these days are more like annoyances. What's with that.

Not really. As far as I can tell, this will work for you, but not for...whoever's interested in leaking information to fb/t. And since you know you won't do it..

I think it's called $$$$$$. Lulz.

Oh, good point. But I do think it's better than having to see the annoying option whenever you need to comment, especially since I send out 20 or so per day...

My guess is that complaints will force the Russians'/maintainers' hands at some point and they'll change it. Wouldn't be the first time.

Hrm...sounds like a bad uproar, good thing I'm not that madly active on posting stuff...but still...*shrugs*

Lemme know if Dreamwidth is awesome for the fandom base, will consider migrating there if all the good stuff goes there, despite the fact that fanfiction.net is still good for me, XD

I haven't really gotten around to exploring DW, but...around 20k people registered there since this thing came up. Probably may mean something in the future, unless if lj decides to tear down this feature immediately. Also, dw has some nice features I rather like..hmm.

Did you get my message on msn a...day or two ago? Sent you a couple links you might be interested in.

Hahaha, sounds good, let's see if I could get it typed out at night, assuming that I don't go ballistics and decided to PS3 my way till the morning in celebration.

Good luck for the assignment! :D Gosh, I wish I had assignments instead of exams. Exams are shits.

Obviously some higher-ups decided it'd be a great way to expand their userbase.

Never mind the crazy people who have stuff to hide.

Or, y'know, the ones who just don't want to be stalked.

*vaguely amused* I don't care one way or the other, largely because I trust my flist not to be morons. We'll see, though.

....I predict we're going to have a bit of rough weather for a while. (http://whatsup.lixlink.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/shitstorm.jpg)
