I'm sad. Truly and really, I am.

Nrgh.

Right. Anyway. So I picked up the FF13 CGI/in-game cut scenes, Japanese version. Completed. There's subs as well, and they shouldn't be difficult to find.

Nevermind that my memory on the English version of the game is semi-vague, I do at least remember enough to be able to tell that there's some big differences between both. Dialogue-wise, personalities-wise, and relationships-wise.

Vanille is less irritating in jap version. Snow is...not that much of a brash idiot. Sazh has a certain wisecrack joke that is entirely non-existent in the English version, and that's..dfgkfgd. Hope is not as annoying as well (when applicable). Fang... Faaaaang.... well, Fang lost that slang. And Serah's...mrgh.

But mostly. Most importantly.

They butchered Lightning's character. I can, however, see that people - if they watched/played both versions - will pick one side or the other depending on what they favor. Not that it matters much in the fandom. In the fandom, or 80% of it, Lightning is just a subtler version of female Squall.

I'm not even going to go into the dialogues they changed in entirety. Stuff they had no actual or good reason to change.

I am disillusioned. And sorry, pastry or no, I think I'm set on Éclair for certain now. It is beyond me how they can change details of characters so much when the scenes are almost essentially the same. I can, however, tell you that the jap ver flows a lot better compared to the eng, where...things just felt a little off every now and then.

And Diana sucks because she's happy I'm as disgruntled as her about it now.

Fandom to be potentially abandoned. So totally disillusioned and sad right now. SAD.

Something tells me you'd prefer the Lightning from English version..

Great. 'Cause I wasn't lazy and disinclined enough already.

Oh well. I'll give it a shot anyway, one of these days.

You probably will want to start gathering the files, if that's the case. They are...around 10gb total. No torrent that I know of, but I hadn't bothered to check. And there's a limit to megaupload downloads per day, so unless if you tell me you've a paid account... yeah, start gathering. -o-

Got a dl manager already on it. Did you use these (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10311)?

Yep. First half was hardsubs, second half was softsubs - cause hardsubs for c11 isn't done yet. No difference though, just a couple extra files.

This guy worked hard. He literally got every scene in (that I remember), aside from the optional Hope/Vanille one in Pulse. Translations are mildly inaccurate at times, but the jap was basic enough to grasp what's odd. So kudos to him. :D

Hm. I'm grabbing the softsubs, so if the subs aren't that good, maybe I'll just turn them off.

- the voice acting is much better, of course; I wish they'd sub J-RPGs instead of dubbing them
- Maaya Sakamoto
- in general I remember the English actor for Lightning doing a respectable job, so I'm mostly appreciating the difference in the other chars

Only up to Ch3 so far. I'll get to the rest some other time.

If you tell me you can't sense the difference in Lightning's character yet, I'll throw a rotten tomato at you..

*ducks*

Seriously? By the end of Chapter 3? She's had like two lines and a few grunts.

Seriously. The difference in her dialogues and intonation, in particular. I dunno about you, but when they change so many of her dialogues, that's more than likely to change her characteristics.

Yes, it's different. No, it has not yet reached critical mass where I think of her as a different person.

Mm, should get clearer soon enough. I don't mean that she's different from top to bottom, but...certain...defining characteristics, that's just not there anymore.

And...haha, that reminds me. The dynamics between Fang and Lightning later on? You may notice something different, and one certain dialogue that Fang did not say to Light in jap ver. During the...Palumpolum chapter.

Man, I was already a sad panda at the voice acting I'd seen from the trailers. (With the exception of Fang, and in some cases, Lightning, almost all of them grated on my nerves throughout.) At least XII had great VAs, if nothing else. I really want to play FFXIII someday, but not at this sort of a cost. This makes it sound like Funi got a hold on a video game. -_-;

Well...that's not to say the localization was a bad game, just... the characters are a little different. Part of it probably has to do with awkward VA, since jap's always been more natural at those, but I digress. But the rest is purely dialogues problem, which affects characters. It is beyond me why they totally massacred dialogues. -.-

You...may not want to watch the jap version at all, if you plan to float around the fandom. Given that 95% of the whole fandom's probably played just the eng ver. >_>

Hrm...It seems that I missed this post of yours.

I've found myself a youtube channel which shows me the Japanese cut scenes. I've not seen all of it yet. However Light's character is portrayed a lot more softer in Japanese because of her intonations. But I will need more comparisons...and especially those in english. My japanese is extremely limited, XD

I can't find anywhere which actually gives me the japanese translation in english...care to help there? XDDDD

Not just softer. Warmer. And...yeaaah. She's actually more like a subtler version of hotheaded Snow...minus the idiocy and stuff, of course. And I can actually see more possibilities of romantic dynamics between Light and Fang, as compared to English version.

And, here (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10311). Might wanna use the jdownloader and wait for a couple days so you can watch a few chapters/all of it in one go. Good thing about that app is that it makes sure your dl doesn't die, since internet over there is...crap. :D

OOOH! If you feel like seeing a game with real bad voice acting to cheer up, go look up Legends of Dragoon on youtube, XDD

I can guarantee that it'll have you cringing, XD
