Comment to be added. Just don't be offended if I don't add, though; if I know you, no issue; if we've similar interests/communities, probably fine; but if nothing at all, and no particular reason, well...probably not.

FFXIII: Fanfiction Recommendations

A compilation of recommended FF13 fictions found throughout the net that is not available on FFnet (well-written fics on ffnet have been compiled into a list on Précis). As I come across any that I find to be well-written, and in character, they will be added accordingly. And if you, the author, do not wish to have your fiction linked here, please contact me and I'll remove them.

There are only two notable categories to note of at the moment, but this may change at a later date in the event that more fics of the same type (pairing, focus, character centric, etc) are found. All fictions are listed by categories, and followed by authors where possible.

A slash implies a pairing, coma implies character focus.

Current Fic Count: 24.

List is no longer up to date. I don't frequent DW enough. If you want to keep track of the fic list, refer to this page.

I'm sad. Truly and really, I am.

Right. Anyway. So I picked up the FF13 CGI/in-game cut scenes, Japanese version. Completed. There's subs as well, and they shouldn't be difficult to find.

Nevermind that my memory on the English version of the game is semi-vague, I do at least remember enough to be able to tell that there's some big differences between both. Dialogue-wise, personalities-wise, and relationships-wise.

Vanille is less irritating in jap version. Snow is...not that much of a brash idiot. Sazh has a certain wisecrack joke that is entirely non-existent in the English version, and that's..dfgkfgd. Hope is not as annoying as well (when applicable). Fang... Faaaaang.... well, Fang lost that slang. And Serah's...mrgh.

But mostly. Most importantly.

They butchered Lightning's character. I can, however, see that people - if they watched/played both versions - will pick one side or the other depending on what they favor. Not that it matters much in the fandom. In the fandom, or 80% of it, Lightning is just a subtler version of female Squall.

I'm not even going to go into the dialogues they changed in entirety. Stuff they had no actual or good reason to change.

I am disillusioned. And sorry, pastry or no, I think I'm set on Éclair for certain now. It is beyond me how they can change details of characters so much when the scenes are almost essentially the same. I can, however, tell you that the jap ver flows a lot better compared to the eng, where...things just felt a little off every now and then.

And Diana sucks because she's happy I'm as disgruntled as her about it now.

Fandom to be potentially abandoned. So totally disillusioned and sad right now. SAD.

Hi again.

You know what I think? I think having assignments to finish means I automatically try to laze, and I end up writing half the time.

hic et nunc.
This is the reality of it all. This is what happens when Cocoon falls.

No pairings, Serah-centric, post-game. End notes in fic for more explanation and rambling.

No. Just, no.

If this site is turning into Facebook/Twitter The Second, I'm out of here. Probably will clean out this account, since I'm still in communities, but I wouldn't be doing anything else.

I don't quite care if LJ will claim their privacy is good, or that they won't connect you without permission, or how they will allow us to enable/disable this feature - because, for god's sake, this is facebook. And we all know how facebook sucks at it, especially with all the scandal about how they don't let you delete account, keeps your information, and everything.

tl;dr: this feature, recycle bin, empty bin. Now. In the meanwhile, I'm creating a new dreamwidth account. As in now.

Just...no. I can give FFnet plenty of chances, because the problems are vastly different, but this...no. LJ, RL; separate. The lot of you in my friends list better not have connected your facebook accounts to your LJ. BECAUSE ONCE YOU HAVE, FACEBOOK WON'T DELETE IT. (Probably? More like VERY LIKELY.) I know some of you to be really private people, so I know you share my concerns. Do not crosspost anything to fb/twit. You'd be annoyed if I do that, and it's vice versa.

Where coffee is concerned.

I've been spoiled. I usually buy coffee from cafes, and now...instant coffee just makes me grimace when I drink it. Ughhh.

On a fic.

FFXIII, in particular.

I wrote this in between doing an assignment, damned scenes wouldn't get out of my mind until I wrote it out. But they are pretty short, so my assignment is safe. I just finished and submitted my assignment actually. At 5.57am. :D And I'm still fairly awake because of the coffee.

But, here.

bits and pieces.

Quite possibly the only fandom where I don't really feel like putting a pairing in. Or I tried, rather...and found out I couldn't quite do it. Oh well. Unbeta-ed because it's just too short to bother Raerae, and I'm too lazy. Possibly weird and odd phrasing. But I blame assignment as distraction.

As for FFXIII fic recs...here. If there are fics that you think should go in there, do tell me.

Damn. I think I'm on caffeine high. >_>

"The strawberry hairspray or the vanilla, Uncle Yzak? "

"Don't have that kind."

"Vanilla." At least there's more dignity in vanilla than strawberry.

*snerk* Sorry, just had to share this. It's from a random fanfic. You probably won't understand why this amuse me so, but kudos to you if you do.

On fic recs and whatnot...this is from the most unlikely fandom I thought I'd step in.

Gundam Seed/GS Destiny. Lulz. I don't think any of you from my friends list even like GS or stepped into the fandom. Unless if I've forgotten.

But oh well.

Two fics. Both with somewhat cliche title, but...both great fictions. With, also, Athrun/Cagalli as the main pairing. A plus is that they are both completed. Another plus is that I like the characterizations and interactions. Most Some other fics I saw on ffnet...oh, woe be me.

Being Athrun Zala by pratz.

This guy hit Athrun's characterization with bull's eye. It also shows what a more matured Cagalli looks like. Yes, I like how Cagalli's portrayed here. I would have liked more insights into her thoughts though. Despite some early plot holes and questionable premise...well. I'd have to say, it's probably one of the best among the odd 1500 fics tagged with Athrun and Cagalli at ffnet.

Eternal Destiny by Andrea Readwolf.

I immensely dislike mediaminer. But I read it on mediaminer anyway. Cause she (he?) separated chapters by scenes in her LJ, and eh...over 80 scenes to click on LJ compared to 9 chapters on mediaminer? Regardless, it was a good enough fic that I didn't mind suffering mediaminer. One thing I would like to see is a continuation, but...meh, oh well. Well-plotted, well-played. I spent a good part of tonight reading it, actually, and it's now just over 5am. I wouldn't mind seeing this as a sequel to GSD. The author took great lengths to secure a strong foundation for the story. I'm also rather tempted to copy and save the whole story to somewhere in my hard disk very soon for personal collection.

Sidenote for GSD: If you've watched GSD, and maybe the Final Plus ep, but have not touched the movies, this ending may interest you. It makes the two major pairings suspiciously all the more canon and set in stone. The first much more obvious than the other. The latter is still rather annoyingly vague, but...it implies something different compared to the original GSD ending.

Fandom: Fate/Stay Night.
Game-verse, post Fate-route. Warning for game spoilers, Shirou/Rin, et cetera.
Theme song: The Greatest Treasure, by Girls Dead Monster. (Angel Beats!)
Fiction cross-linked to ffnet. (FFnet, U SUK. Link's not working at the moment. May or may not resolve itself later, but, I'll update this part later if necessary.)(Edit 2: Link's working again.)

The way she said that, the way she said 'oh' and his name, made him freeze. )

Lack of Shirou/Rin fanfictions makes me sad. Is that pairing that unpopular, or am I just not seeing them..?

It's a little funny how my view changed - I don't recall really liking Fate/Stay Night that much the couple years ago I watched/played it. Hadn't even bothered to finish the HF route when the full patch came out. :P

Had some time recently, though. During the slow, quiet nights when I finally have time to myself to spend on mundane things. Got around to replaying the routes to refresh my memory, before moving on to HF. Also find myself liking UBW route more than the rest.

I guess this puts two visual novels on the list of my favorites - Ever17, and now FSN. Not sure why I didn't like FSN much back then though.

Hmm. Maybe my perspective on things did change a lot more than I thought compared to years ago. Oh well.

I will also say that Shirou is a constant source of annoyance that brings out a sort of weary/exasperated/resigned amusement.

Fate/Stay Night Scorecard:
Plot: 9
Graphics: 8
Sound/Music: 7
Gameplay: 7.5
Overall: 8

Jun, I like your concept on Angel Beats. I really do.

But the way you present it from start to end is just plain wrong.

The last episode fails in so many ways I cannot describe. It would have worked so, so much better if Kanade did not go ooc. Because, you know, if she remained the stoic girl she was throughout the episode, and if she had shown actual emotions at just the scene with Yuzuru (aside from the Yuri part), that would have been a brilliant scene.

If I haven't recommended this one, I'm doing it now. Delivery is good, author kept it really...brittania-ish, and. Yeah. Delivery is definitely the prime of this fic.

A certain chapter, in particular...is well worth remembering and priceless for reasons I will not divulge. *snort*

This fic, I love.

Also my first and possibly only Harry Potter fic recommendation.

Let it be said that Ron/Hermione or Harry/Ginny does not interest me.

Let it also be said that while my interest in HP was good those years ago, it was hearing about the pairings above becoming canon that made me lose interest.

Vaguely remember skimming the last two (three?) books while at a friend's place. Didn't read.

Clocked in 58 hours on FF13. Fairly straightforward game.

Ending was...it was nice, but it feels lacking.

There is a fic in the MGLN fandom that completely disgusts me. Parody or no, it's just disgusting. But, then again, parody and I never mixed. If you could tell what I'm referring to, I'm sorry for you, too. Otherwise, may the curiosity not get the better of you, because I'm not linking or pointing fingers.

A foretelling of what will become of the fandom?

If already.
